At my age, recovering from a weekend in Vegas while simultaneously training for an Ironman is exhausting. Up through Tuesday, I was suffering some minor pains in my shin/ankle/foot just from wearing heels. Luckily this Vegas nightclub injury did not impede my ability to swim, bike, or run. It only hurt when I walked :p
Here is my week, with associated stories. I'll also add intermittent comments regarding the Superbowl, which I'm currently watching.
Monday: 45 min spin class (13 miles) + 30 min core class
"Is there a bachelorette party in here?" This is what Travers asked me after it became clear that the girls spinning behind us were really excited to be in spin class.
Intermittent comment #1: Did anyone see the Subway triathlon commercial?! Solid.
(UPDATE: tough dodger)
Tuesday: am- 3600 yard swim (main set: 5 x {400 fr on 6:00 + 200 pull on 3:15} no rest between sets)
pm- 7 mile run with 3 x 1 mile repeats + 1/2 mile recovery (road, not track). Repeat times were 6:50, 6:45, and 6:42. I call these the 'vomit miles' because that's what I thought was going to happen after the second one, the third one, and when I first woke up the next morning :P
Intermittent comment #2: The Seahawks just entered to the song "Bittersweet Symphony"? WTF?!
Wednesday: 45 min spin class (spun a few extra minutes, 14.5 miles). Power was low due to leg faituge, likely caused by the vomit miles.
Thursday: am- 45 min strength + core
pm- 7 mile run easy (8:42)
Friday: 3000 yard swim. In a set with 4 x 100 fr I was down to 1:11-1:13 range, which I was thrilled about.
Saturday: 60 mile bike ride with 5400 ft of climbing at a surprisingly fast pace (for me, considering the climbing) of 14.0 mph. It was AMAZINGLY clear and the views were awesome.
Sunday: 18.1 mile run at 8:37 pace. For the first 6 miles I thought I might pass out or die, but then it actually felt ok! I intentionally started very conservatively and I think it helped. I'll also point out that I don't think an 18 mile run 6 months out from the Ironman is really necessary, but my favorite marathon (Oakland!) happens to be 7 weeks away and I'm hoping to actually finish.
In final news, after being kitchenless for 3 months due to renovation we finally got to unpack our pantry last night! You know you're training for an Ironman when your brand new pantry has a dedicated energy shelf.
Super amazed by your mile repeats... repeats on the road are hard as F! And you're also crushing your long runs these days. I feel like i haven't had an easy long run all year :P. Thanks to you and Sandi for riding with me yesterday - I'm liking this new cycling / Stag's routine!! :)
